Band Together

Band Together is a local, nonprofit organization that has raised nearly $7.8 million to benefit various Triangle charitable causes since 2001. Each year, Band Together partners with a nonprofit in the Triangle and raises money through their live music event. Band Together approached Walk West to provide livestream capabilities and live event coverage to reach a larger audience during the 2016 Main Event, along with pre-event social content and ads to raise awareness.

The Challenge

Band Together’s challenge was one that many nonprofits face: Awareness. By putting awareness on the forefront of our digital marketing efforts, the organization’s goals of increasing donations and support were more easily reached. This year, Band Together’s specific goal was to raise $1 million for their 2017 partner nonprofit, YMCA of the Triangle.

The Solution

This was Walk West’s second consecutive year providing live social activation for Band Together. This year, the Main Event’s music series included Travers Brothership, London Souls, along with headliner and NC native, Ben Folds. Our goal this year was to build Band Together’s brand awareness, social following, and bring the event experience to those who were unable to attend.

While Band Together works to raise money for their partner charities year round, the annual Main Event brings in the majority of donations and community involvement. Walk West provided livestreaming services and social media coverage leading up to and during the Main Event in order to help them achieve their goals, and of course, raise or exceed that $1 million.

Livestream Capabilities

We delivered a professional, high-quality livestream of both opening acts of the Main Event, as well as the donation check reveal. This resulted in over 250 engagements and 6K video views. During the event, our team monitored engagement and directed users to donate to Band Together in real time before the check reveal following the musical acts.

Social Media and Content Capture

Walk West took over Band Together’s social channels five weeks leading up to the Main Event. We developed a content strategy including weekly contests, paid social ad campaigns, and social posts with the goal to build awareness along with increase ticket sales. This resulted in over 700 pre-event engagements.

During the Main Event, the Walk West street team took over Band Together’s Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and Snapchat channels. We designed and developed a Snapchat geofilter, along with monitoring and engaging in the conversation using the hashtag #bandtogethernc across each channel, crafting tweets, Instagram posts, Instagram stories, and snapchats. This resulted in over 100 new followers across platforms and a reach of  over 1 million Twitter users.

Another tidbit worth mentioning: Band Together raised over $1.3 million for the Triangle YMCA, exceeding their goal of $1 million.
