3 Takeaways from Internet Summit Raleigh Day 1

3 Takeaways from Internet Summit Raleigh Day 1

The two-day Internet Summit in Raleigh finally arrived Wednesday, with marketing professionals from across the southeast convening downtown in the Raleigh Convention Center to hear from big names like Rand Fishkin, Russell Simmons, and Chris Brogan.

Casey Overcash and I will represent Walk West in the sea of digital junkies and data nerds. While Casey will focus on honing her mastery of SEO, I’ll be floating between the “rest” of the workshops – and there are plenty to choose from!

We both agreed that day 1 was a success, but that may be in large part because Casey met her professional idol, Rand Fishkin.

Casey and I will be live-tweeting throughout day 2 of the Internet Summit, but, to get you excited about us blowing up your Twitter feed, here are a few knowledge nuggets we picked up Wednesday:

1. People are 7x more likely to read content on LinkedIn than they are to look for jobs.

2. Use Google’s search suggestions to find out what people are searching when they look for a specific topic. If you’re unsure how people are searching for you on the Internet, put yourself in their place. Start typing! Play around with it. You may be surprised by what you find.

Speaking of how to get away with murder, Arnie Kuenn also told us where to hide the body.

3. Don’t hate the media, BECOME the media. That’s what content marketing allows us to do. We don’t need more content, we need more relevant content. In regards to search, Google is looking at what gets engagement not just shares. (A blend of knowledge from both Jason Miller and Rand Fishkin)

Day 2, we’re ready for you!

In addition to our live-tweets, Casey and I will be Periscoping throughout the day. Check it out!
